FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When did you start writing?
    • I began writing when I knew what letters were. My mom has found stacks of stories I've written from the time I was in kindergarten. Though, I didn't actually write my first short-story until the sixth grade (72 pages) and my first full-length play (83 pages) until the third grade. I've always had a passion for writing, the ability to display my thoughts in an organized way. I can't really put a timeline on when I started writing. I just always have.
  • Which do you like better, reading or writing?
    • Ooh... that's a hard one. It depends upon the book, I guess. There are several authors who I love to read more than my own writing. But, sometimes I'll get a brainstorm and really like my idea and get a bit carried away and I can't put away my computer to read a book. It really just depends upon my mood.
  • Have you ever published a book?
    • I'm sorry to say I haven't. Not yet, anyway. When The Playbook gets published, it will be my first novel to ever get published. Hopefully, the first in a long line of books!
  • What do you do to write a book?
    • Well, a lot of things. I listen to music (always have been a music buff), get ideas from events around me, and use my imagination a lot. I always keep a notebook and pen/pencil handy in case I get an idea and need jot it down.
  • What's your favorite genre of books?
    • That's really hard. It depends on the author, I guess. If it's Suzanne D. Williams or Erin Mangum, comedy and romance. If it's Frank Peretti or Ted Dekker, thriller and horror. If it's John Piper or one of the Harris brothers, theological novels. If it's Lee Strauss or Veronica Roth, dystopian series. If it's Shannon Dittemore, Tolken, C. S. Lewis, or Chanda Hahn, fantasy. The list could go on and on. Honestly, it depends on the author. And, before you ask that question - no, I do not have a favorite author. That question is too hard to answer.
  • Do you have any books out that we can read besides The Playbook?
    • At this point in time, no. The Playbook is the only finished novel out at this time for reading, though it is being edited.
  • Will you ever let us read a book you wrote when you were little?
    • Nope. That would just be embarrassing!
  • Do you keep a journal or diary?
    • Sure do! I like writing about my life (privately, of course) and venting my feelings, or just jotting down a memory. Besides, keeping a journal or diary is the best way to improve your writing skills. Some of the best writers kept a private journal. And not just females either. I know quite a few guys - authors included - who kept a journal. Almonzo Wilder is one. If you want to become a better writer, write about mundane things, try to make them interesting. This will help you grow as a writer and you'll get a pretty good memoir of your life.
